Sewer Equipment

[ Dixon, IL ]

October 1, 2024, was the perfect day for the Manufacturing Express to visit Sewer Equipment in Dixon, Illinois. Today, the nation celebrated the 100th birthday of former President Jimmy Carter, the longest-living former president and a dedicated supporter of Habitat for Humanity. It also marked the start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Fittingly, Sewer Equipment proudly supports both Habitat for Humanity and Susan G. Komen, two causes closely aligned with the day’s significance.

Sewer Equipment employees playing the Manufacturing Challenge game

Sewer Equipment is a family owned business that was founded in Illinois over 80 years ago. Since its inception, Sewer has continued to expand its presence in the Dixon community and marketplace, creating some of the industry’s highest-quality sewer cleaning and vacuum excavation equipment.

Sewer specializes in four primary products: truck and trailer-mounted sewer jetters, combination sewer cleaners, hydro-vac trucks, and easement machines. With a facility of 300 employees, they are able to produce over 400 units per year. Each piece of equipment is customizable to fit the needs of municipalities and contractors.

Sewer has always operated with a focus on growth and innovation. They are expanding their campus and opening a new facility by the end of the month. This new facility will reflect their strategic initiative to re-enter the parts space. This facility will focus solely on after-market services, while the existing production facility will concentrate entirely on manufacturing.

Alongside business growth, their commitment to charity has grown simultaneously. Sewer prioritizes giving back. As Sewer President John Wichmann puts it, “It’s an opportunity, as an organization that has had success, to return the favor.” The team at Sewer recognizes that they did not achieve success alone, and they have consistently demonstrated their commitment to supporting their community.

Much like how they innovate their products, they also innovate how they serve others. As they travel around the nation to demonstrate the capabilities of their equipment, they customize their products with themed branding. For every demo conducted with a theme truck as part of their program, “Every Demo, We Donate,” Sewer donates to an associated charity. They have created trucks for Habitat for Humanity, Susan G. Komen, and Homes for Our Troops.

In every aspect of their business, Sewer Equipment exemplifies a commitment to excellence, innovation, and community support. As they continue to expand their operations and lead the industry, their dedication to charitable causes remains equally strong. Sewer demonstrates that success is not just about growth–it’s about making a meaningful impact in the community that has always supported them.
