Today the Manufacturing Express visited Old Dominion Brush Company (ODB) in Richmond, Virginia–a company with deep roots in the Old Dominion State. The Manufacturing Express has been driving on our American roads all summer. So we’re excited to visit a company that is dedicated to keeping America’s roads clean, safe and beautiful. ODB is in the business of doing just that!
ODB manufactures debris and leaf collection systems, frequently used by municipal governments. In other words, ODB products help beautify communities and keep roads clean and safe. ODB has created some of the most efficient and cost effective equipment on the market. Most notably, their Truck Mounted Vacuum Systems allow for more debris to be picked up in less time, saving municipal government budgets by reducing manpower and fuel costs. One ODB DCL truck can do the work of two self-contained trailers or three tow-behinds. ODB is trusted by so many municipalities due to their innovation-focused approach to addressing their customers’ needs.
ODB excels at recognizing a need and pivoting to serve their customers better. When ODB learned that many local municipalities were struggling to find drivers who had their commercial licenses, they built the first ever CDL-exempt debris collector truck. This is just one of the 13 patents that ODB has secured in the past four years alone.
And ODB customizes their products to fit the needs of each individual municipality. When a community has a piece of equipment that is specifically designed to fit their needs, everyone benefits. Roads are safer, and streets are cleaner when ODB equipment is in use.
This commitment to serving others extends past their equipment; ODB creates meaningful career opportunities. As a partner of the Virginia Department of Veterans Services, ODB makes it a priority to hire veterans and integrate them into their workforce. “We have found that veterans tend to have the work ethic, commitment and dedication to growth that we have as an organization,” said Operations Manager Mudit Monsi. By integrating veterans into their workforce, ODB has created a tight-knit community within the company, where everyone’s ideas are heard. “We draw from everyone’s ideas. Everyone has a say,” Monsi added, underscoring the company’s collective commitment to innovation.
At Old Dominion Brush, the focus on creating an inclusive and welcoming workplace is reflected in their company culture and their innovative product line. Their commitment continues to grow the company 110 years and beyond.
