Steelwrist

[ Newington, CT ]

The AEM Manufacturing Express returned to Connecticut, this time visiting a company set to make a big impact in the United States in the coming years: Steelwrist, a tiltrotator manufacturing company.

Peter Gaj, Vice President of Region Americas for Steelwrist, speaks at the Manufacturing Express event

Tiltrotators are hydraulic attachments used on excavators that allow the bucket to be rotated 360 degrees, increasing the excavator’s flexibility and precision. They are incredibly common in Europe, especially Scandinavia. In the United States, adoption of these tools is becoming increasingly popular, with the domestic market projected to quadruple over the next three to five years.

“Customers are able to reinvest into their equipment and finish jobs faster, use less fuel and help put less wear on their machines,” said Peter Gaj, VP Region Americas at Steelwrist. “A tiltrotator lets an operator do more with the machine already on site, which means contractors can stay focused on the work in front of them rather than on hauling in another piece of iron. Steelwrist is proud to have a hand in that.”

The team here at the North American headquarters works hard every day on their mission to bring this innovative technology to more American job sites. This event was a celebration of all of their efforts to make construction more efficient here in the United States. Even as a Nor’easter brough heavy rains to Connecticut, the party continued as the bus pulled into the warehouse for the day’s celebration. Much like their equipment, the Steelwrist team is ready to adapt to any environment.

Steelwrist’s tiltrotators are set to really change what excavator operators can do here in the United States. Once a tiltrotator is added to an excavator, it instantly becomes 20-40% more efficient. That means crew are able to get more done with a single machine, reducing operational costs.

It won’t be long before you see equipment like this on jobsites all over the country, and Steelwrist is determined to be the brand Americans choose. This office opened in 2017 as a distribution center, and as the company grows its domestic operations, it plans to be the first tiltrotator company to manufacture here domestically.

“Everybody places an order and wants it. They don’t want to place an order and wait for it to come from Sweden. So we needed to start the manufacturing process here in North America to come with a one- to-three-week delivery time,” said Gaj. “This is just the beginning of our manufacturing process, getting one up and going, and then eventually, hopefully, within two three years, we’ll have another manufacturing machine here expanding our products.”

For Steelwrist, bringing manufacturing to the United States is about more than meeting growing demand. It’s about investing in the people, technology, and capacity needed to help transform how work gets done on American jobsites. As tiltrotators become an increasingly common sight across the country, the team in Connecticut will be helping lead that transformation: building the tools that allow contractors to work smarter, get more out of their equipment, and take on the jobs that keep America moving.
